Abu Jahl Melon

Even though Paradise and Hell did not matter to the devotees of mystical love, they were well aware that their deeds would bear fruit, and one of the favorite sayings attributed to the Prophet was constantly repeated by the moderate mystics: "This world is the seedbed for the Otherworld." Every act bears fruit by helping or hindering the adept in his progress toward his goal, and "if you plant colocynth (Abu Jahl Melon), no sugarcane will grow out of it" (D 1337).
