Chats On Rumi In The Light Of Koran and Hadiths - Traps

Master Seyid Burhaneddin says that “It must be known that those who are at peace with his/her self are at war with God.” And he also states “Do not be afraid of the beast in the sea, but be afraid of the beast in your self.”
In other words self is the greatest enemy. Our Master Prophet, after the Battle of Uhud, spoke to His sahabe (companions) as follows: “This battle is a small one, the big war will, actually, begin henceforward”. When they asked “What is that big war?”, He answered “In this battle we were struggling with the visible enemy, however from now on you will struggle with the invisible enemy which is your self.”
Your self lays traps to you every time, and the way to get rid of these traps is Love and asceticism (disciplining the self).
Then seest thou such a one as takes as his god his own vain desire? Allah has, knowing (him as such), left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his heart (and understanding), and put a cover on his sight. Who, then, will guide him after Allah (has withdrawn Guidance)? Will ye not then receive admonition? (Quran, Al-Jathiyah, 23)
