Free Will On The Level Of The Sacred

To Rumi the most important duty of humans is to find their identity and realize the Truth of God. He said that only in this way could one be worthy of the name 'human'.
"If you haven't seen the Beloved, haven't found the Beloved, why aren't you looking? If you've found the Beloved why aren't you rejoicing?"
Mevlana gives exceptional importance to free will and practically raises the human being to the level of the sacred. This is why he gives such importance to knowing oneself. With no discrimination between differences of birth or later circumstances he values all humankind. He sees even the worst person as worthy of love and forgiveness. He has made known the heights to which love of God can raise man. His suggestion was to be always mild tempered in order to conquer hearts, and he said; "Know that whoever you are, you need to greet and ask after those in your circle, high and low. Even if someone is your enemy it's good to behave kindly; because of that kindness that enemy may become a friend. Even if the enemy doesn't become a friend, his animosity will become less; because kindness is certainly a balm to animosity." (to be continued)
