Whirling dervishes at the Galata in Istanbul, under Pir Hasan Dede (1992)

This particular scene featuring the whirling dervish of Istanbul was shot in the historical Galata "Mevlevihanesi" or House of the Mevlevis, a five-hundred year old building and garden which has become a cultural heritage site and museum today. Under spiritual guide Sheikh Hasan Dede, the Mevlevi order lives on in Istanbul and continues to provide traditional Sema ceremonies to the public and the world at large.
