Who Shoud Honor Who?
One day, Kiraga (May God be pleased with her) was with Chelebi in Tokat. She bowed in front of him, displaying her limitless respect and admiration for him. The noble women, sultaness Gumaj Khatun, the Parvna Mo'inuddin's daughter, Khavandzada, and the daughter of the Keeper of the Wine (sharab salar), and the Controller (Mostawfi) and others criticised her saying, "It's not appropriate for a mother to bow before her sona and to honor him to such an extent, rather, a good son should honor his mother, bow before her, and kiss her hand.
Kiraga replied, "Your Sustainer knows best as to who strays form his path, and best knows He as to who are rightly guided. when I look at Arif, I see Mevlana, himself. This radiance burns within my soul, and I can hardly bear it. This is the reason that I bow before him - I do not consier him as a son, but rather as my Shaikh, Khodavandgar has entrusted him to me."
That Friday, all the ladies gathered for the sema, and Chelebi, filled with mystical love, recited this quatrain:
We are a subtle soul, hidden from sight.
We appear in a place, but we are placeless.
If we were to lift the veil from our face
we would ravish spirit, heart and reason.
Then, while whirlin in sema he recited,
The Essence of love is in the world of spirits;
love's nurse is a subtle breeze in pre-eternity.
If the shadow of love falls upon a seeker's head,
he becomes life itself, like the sun.
All the ladies, bewildered and ashamed, bowed and asked forgiveness. The rendered all sorts of service to Chelebi and bestowed rar gifts upon him.
